From what I've gathered from Microsoft, here is the story on compatibility with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and various versions of Great Plains (now called Microsoft Dynamics GP).
Dynamics GP 9.0 - Compatible out-of-the box with SQL 2005
Great Plains 8.0 - Will be compatible with SQL 2005 with an upcoming service pack (no release date is set yet)
Great Plains 7.5 and all earlier release with NOT be compatible with SQL 2005
Also, with the release of Dynamics GP 9.0, SQL Server 7.0 is no longer supported. Just SQL 2000 and 2005.
Here is the full list of SQL versions supported with Dynamics GP 9.0.
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition SP 4
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition SP 4
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Workgroup Edition SP 4
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (64-bit) SP 4
MSDE 2000 SP 4
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition 32-bit and 64-bit
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition 32-bit and 64-bit
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (formerly called MSDE)
I'm still trying to get some answers about Dynamics GP 9.0 being "mirror aware". If it is, this would mean that its compatible with the new "database mirroring" feature in SQL 2005. This would allow you to have a standby server running SQL 2005 and then should your primary server fail, the Dynamics GP client apps would know to switch over to the mirror server without any user intervention. This would be quite handy. And not too expensive either - your mirrored server doesn't need an additional SQL 2005 license.
I'll post here when I get to the bottom of this question.

Jason,
I understand that the Great Plains 9.0 client will not install on a 64bit Windows 2003 Server. Is this true, and is it an issue?
Good day,
Great Plains 9 will install on a 64 bit windows 2003 server. We've done it already but there are some small things one has to take into consideration like setting up of the odbc. You have to look for the folder syWOW64 and use odbcad32.exe to create the odbc connection. If you create the odbc using the one from administrative tools GP will not see the GP server. HOpe what lil i said helps
Regards,
When i said GP i meant the GP client on the GP server.
Great post. We are running Dynamics 7 on Pervasive. We want to upgrade to Dynamics 9 on SQL Server 2005. As an intermediate step, we apparently have to upgrade to Dynamics 7.5 on Pervasive, migrate this Dynamics 7.5 on SQL Server, then finally upgrade to Dynamics 9 on SQL Server. The problem is that the docs for the Pervasive-to-SQL-Server migration tool only mention SQL Server 7 and 2000. It is silent on whether it works with 2005. But judging from your blog, it looks like 2005 on Dynamics 7.5 is not supported. Can you confirm this?
If you are right, we'll have to go from Pervasive to 2000 to 2005. Sucks.
The other thing that doesn't work with Version 9 on a 64-bit OS is any VBA customization add-on will not work.
Other than that, it seems to work fine
Is MS Dynmaics version 10 compatible with SQL Express 2005
Anonymous your comment about odbcad32.exe helped us figure out a irritating problem... you are the man.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
